Love Me Knot
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Remember how, back in September, I said I was going to stop writing issues centered around a certain theme, and then proceeded to do a bunch of Halloween and holiday-themed issues? Ok well, I mean it this time! No more themes (although Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day are both coming up……. argh……. I’ll think about it 😩.) But for now, here are just some cool things I’ve been shopping for lately, apropos of nothing! See you next week!
Bet Your Boots
ODENSE - DUCK FEET ($288)
I’ve been eyeing Duck Feet boots for some time, but didn’t really have a good excuse to spring for a pair — until it started snowing in New York, a weather condition completely foreign to me. Clearly my regular boots weren’t gonna cut it in below-freezing weather and I needed to buy the fleece-lined Odenses stat. I won’t lie, when I first received them, I thought I’d made a grave mistake — reviewers swear you can wear them barefoot, so I went for a little stroll sans socks, and by the time I got back to my apartment I was rubbed raw and limping. So yes, the break-in period is a little rough, but just tough it out with some thick woolen socks and once you’ve managed to get the stiff leather to loosen up a bit you’re golden. As I’ve mentioned before, my feet aren’t exactly on the slender side, so I’m especially grateful that all Duck Feet shoes are designed with a wide, roomy toe box; there’s no pinching or squeezing, and all my toes have enough space to splay naturally.
Light of My Life
SQUIGGLY LIGHT SWITCH COVER - CRAP BY LEELA ($20)
The light switch cover in my room is hanging on by a THREAD; I can very clearly see the tangle of wires in the wall, and every time I go to turn on the lights I brace myself for potential electrocution. My only 2022 goal is to avoid an embarrassing, easily-preventable death, so I’ve been shopping around for a new cover, and I think this adorably squiggly design from Brooklyn-based artist Leela Fideor might be the one. It’s the next best thing if, like me, you’re a fan of the Ultrafragola mirror but haven’t the space to accommodate one; plus I enjoy the idea of leaving a fun little touch for the new tenant to stumble on once I move out.
Pillow Talk
NEON CRUSH - JIU JIE ($150)
I’ve been dragging my feet on getting a body pillow for a while now, possibly because of their negative association with lonely weeaboos, but I think it’s about time I finally bite the bullet. I’m a side sleeper, and though I’m not quite yet at the point of complaining about a bad back, I do find myself waking up in the morning unconsciously contorted into all sorts of chiropractically-inadvisable positions that do not bode well for my spinal health. A quick search, however, only yielded pillows that looked boring and clinical, and I certainly was not about to buy one printed with a busty anime girl, so I was delighted to stumble upon these very chic Jiu Jie knot pillows. They come in a variety of eye-popping fabrics, from neon velvet to embroidered brocade to checkerboard twill, and can be twisted into a pretzel for quirky home decor or straightened out for properly-aligned slumber.
