Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
I’ve got a sweet treat for y’all this week 😋 Last Sunday, July 18 was National Ice Cream Day! Although I’m a little belated to the celebration, I don’t think there’s ever a bad time to sing the praises of a summertime staple, especially as we head into the thick of another heat wave. What’s everyone’s favorite flavor?
The Van Leeuwen vs Ample Hills debate is moot when neither can hold a candle to my favorite LA ice cream shop, Wanderlust Creamery. (Though for the record, Van Leeuwen has pulled ahead in my books thanks to their stunt collab with Kraft.) Wanderlust’s far-flung flavors draw from global palates, using ingredients from Italian gianduja to Filipino ube, French poppy liqueur to Chinese White Rabbit candy, and I’m always delighted to see what new seasonal flavors they come out with. Lemme tell ya, when I saw that they were releasing a Ramune ice cream for the month of July, I did not walk, I ran to snag a pint.
As I wrote a couple months ago, Y2K-esque beaded jewelry is extremely in right now, and these tiny ice cream cone earrings are giving off enormous early-2000s vibes. The shop is run by a mother-daughter duo, who design and make each earring by hand from glass beads and gemstones (which also means that they’re available in extremely limited quantities, so act fast!) If you’re not a vanilla with sprinkles kind of person, perhaps I can interest you in a scoop of chocolate, strawberry, pistachio, or mint chip?
Be a Sweetheart
Am I about to drop $3,600 on this vintage ice cream parlor set? No, of course not. But did I get alarmingly close to considering it? Haha…yeah, I did. But in my defense, look how utterly adorable it is! I love the retro design, with its heart-shaped backs and looped feet crafted from cherry-tomato-red wrought iron — I can just imagine sitting on one of these chairs, wearing a little poodle skirt and sipping a strawberry milkshake. Anyone want to go in on opening an old-timey ice cream parlor with me?
