Wish Fulfillment
Ok, well, no one sent me a strongly-worded email decrying my tentative decision last week to switch to an all-wishlist format, so, here we go! We’re going with it and trying something new. These are all items that, over the past week, I have achingly, regretfully, failed to purchase. If you perhaps feel so inclined to acquire any of these things, please do let me know so I can live vicariously through you.
Smooth as Silk

ANGEL DRESS - CLOUD HUNTER CO.
Is there anything more luxurious than lolling around at home in a pure silk slip? As the temperature in LA soared into the 90s this week, I found myself longing for the sensation of cool silk to soothe my sweaty skin. This slinky little number from Cloud Hunter Co. fit the bill perfectly; with its low cowl neck and bias cut skirt, it’s sure to keep you breezy but heat up anyone who’s looking at you. Though it comes in several colors, including a cantaloupe orange and a dusty champagne, my favorite is this gorgeous mossy green — it instantly transports me to the mist-shrouded, rain-lashed forests of the Pacific Northwest, a welcome reprieve when I’m lying panting on the floor of my AC-less apartment.
Playing Fair

COUNTY FAIR PERFUME OIL - ALKEMIA
Growing up in Orange County, the OC Fair was a summer staple, and I’ve faithfully attended every year since I was 8 years old. But this summer, it’s — you guessed it — canceled. The fair was briefly on pause between 1942 and 1947 during World War II, but otherwise has been lighting up the region with Ferris wheels and carousels since 1890.
The news struck a blow to my already-fragile emotional state, so of course I immediately started plotting how I would bring the fair to my home. The first step, I think, is to buy this County Fair Perfume Oil from Etsy shop Alkemia. The notes listed are exactly what you’d find at “an old-fashioned American carnival midway — pink cotton candy, hot kettle corn, freshly fried funnel cakes, candied apples, and saltwater taffy.” Sometimes I’m a bit skeptical of indie perfumers, but the fragrance’s rave reviews include phrases like “blown away,” “pure nostalgic magic,” and “can’t get enough,” so I think I’ll give this one a whirl.
Stranger Things

CANCUN PEOPLE TEE - PALOMA WOOL
I have found the perfect quarantine outfit, and it is this people-print long-sleeve top from Paloma Wool. If I’m not allowed to physically be around others right now, at least I can wear ‘em on my shirt. Looking at all these faces, I can’t help but wonder — who are they? What are they thinking? I’ve zoomed in close and pored over the pixels, but they remain inscrutable. It reminds me of the magic of being packed into a crowd at the club or a concert, surrounded by strangers, where no one knows you and you know no one, and you can feel your edges sort of shift and soften and grow blurry, and you can no longer tell where your body ends and the next person’s begins.
