Sweat It Out
Other than a few tops I keep on standby for the occasional Zoom appearance, I, like everyone else, have been living in PJs: threadbare vintage tees, old Academic Decathlon hoodies, ratty Adidas sweatpants stolen from my boyfriend. Basically, it’s high time I up my loungewear game. Here are three comfy, cozy matching sets I’ve eyed in the past few days; if anyone has purchased pandemic loungewear that they swear by, please spill the deets!
Fresh as a Daisy
FLOWER CUTOUT HOODIE & FLOWER CUTOUT SWEATPANTS - NIBGNUS
In general, I’ve never liked cut-out clothes — I just can’t rationalize paying more for less fabric! Having spent my whole life rebuffing “pre-distressed” jeans and “cold-shoulder” tops, however, I’ve finally encountered a piece that may just change my mind. The strategically-placed daisy cut-outs that adorn this matching hoodie and sweatpants set from Nibgnus elevate it beyond every other boring grey heather sweatsuit out there. My only reservation is that the pants may be a bit too chilly once the temperature dips, but you know what, just throw some long underwear on underneath and you’re good to go.
Brick a Fit
BRICKWORK CARDIGAN & BRICKWORK PANTS - ECKHAUS LATTA
I’m an Eckhaus Latta groupie, so I unduly adore whatever they do, but watching this set come down their AW19 runway I audibly gasped. If I could only wear one thing for the rest of my life, I’d choose to be swathed in this warm, cozy, elegant, colorful patchwork knit. It’s stunning, it’s gorgeous, and I want it so bad, but alas, I simply cannot be dropping over $1000 on two items of clothing. Even with the knowledge that if I ever put this on my body would never take it off, I still can’t justify that kind of expense — but at least I can live out my sartorial fantasies in Animal Crossing.
Varsity Greens
DUO SWEATER CARDI & HENLEY SHORT - DONNI
Green and white is one of my favorite color combinations. Something about the two in tandem just conjures up images of cheerleading uniforms and varsity jackets, crisp fall air, numbers on a scoreboard, and the roar of a stadium. (My own high school colors were red, white and blue, and also we didn’t have a football team, so this association is definitely borne of movies and TV shows.) Nevertheless, I’m quite enamored of this duochrome sweater set, preppy and laid-back in equal measure. The demure cardigan, set off with a row of mother-of-pearl buttons, pairs nicely with the boyish, almost athletic-looking shorts. Perfect for when you have a Zoom meeting at 6 but a workout at 7!
