Spring in My Step
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
The weather is warming, the birds are chirping, and I’m literally polishing off a box of Peeps marshmallows as I write this, so I think it’s safe to say that spring has sprung. And just in the nick of time, too; I don’t know if I can take much more of shuffling around in bulky coats and slathering Vanicream on my flaky, peeling skin. I went outside with bare legs last weekend and I didn’t even recognize myself — it was like I’d transformed a whole new person. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves as much as I am!
Put a Sock In It
CHAMOMILE BEADED SOCKS - BRITE THINGS ($50)
I’m not quite sure what happened, but somehow I have worn holes into the heels of three different pairs of socks. (Not individually, as a pair — that’s a total of six ruined socks!) I suspect it has something to do with the heavy-duty industrial dryer located in the basement of my apartment building that I’ve been using; that thing heats up into a de facto furnace, even on the lowest setting. So when I saw that artist Vanessa Perez’s brand Brite Things was having a spring sale, I snatched up a pair of these cotton socks, embellished with an assortment of vintage glass beads. The delicate decor means I definitely can’t be throwing these in the dryer willy-nilly — I’ll be hand-washing and hanging them up to dry, so hopefully they’ll keep hole-free for years to come.
Chain Reaction
NASTURTIUM ANKLET - DAISY CHAINS ($34)
I’m calling it right now: perler bead art is gonna make a comeback, courtesy of the 90s revival. Take the success of Daisy Chains, a jewelry brand that strings together necklaces, bracelets, and earrings featuring a vivid medley of perler bead flowers, interspersed with pearls and gemstones. The brand is carried by cool-girl boutique Cafe Forgot, has been spotted draped around the neck of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, and is currently working on a new collection with Anna Sui after adorning their resort ‘22 runway. I, for one, can’t wait to pick up a perler bead kit at Michael’s and try my hand at DIY-ing this trend.
Honey Bunny
BUNNY TRINKET DISH - ARTISTIC PARROT ($21)
I already own a trinket dish and really don’t need (or have space for) another one, but something about this bunny’s expression is tugging at my heartstrings. It’s just so… plaintive! So woebegone! How could I resist those floppy ears and that rosy pink nose and those big, beseeching bunny rabbit eyes? It’s like the epitome of the “🥺” emoji. This dish is one-of-a-kind, hand-sculpted in British Columbia by ceramicist Olivia Steed, so someone please adopt this sweet thing before my defenses crumble and find myself with even less room on my nightstand.
