Smile From Ear to Ear
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Today’s edition of Worn In, Worn Out is a very special one. I’ve been brainstorming ways to grow and enhance my newsletter, and I figured everyone could use a fresh perspective from time to time. So I’m starting a new tradition; every once in a while, I’ll bring in some cool people to talk about the contents of their online shopping carts. I promise they’ll all have excellent taste.
My first guest post is from Vox reporter (and my former roommate!) Terry Nguyen. Terry writes about consumer and internet trends, not just for Vox but also for her own newsletter Gen Yeet, which breaks down and analyzes the latest cultural goings-on from a Zoomer’s perspective. All this to say she’s very dialed into trends, the youths, and what’s trending with the youths. Take it away, Terry!
A Slice of Sweater
I said it here first: Sweater sleeves are the future. The accessory is perfect for those transition weather evenings, when the air feels a tad too chilly to leave the apartment without a jacket or a shawl. But what if you don't want to entirely cover up? Enter: sweater sleeves. The cool Instagram girls are accessorizing them with bustiers, silk slip dresses, or plain ol' tanks. Wear them at home or out and about. They're like leg warmers, but for your arms. Innovation! The sleeves sold by Simonett, a ready-to-wear label by Simonett Pereira, come in neutral shades and are slightly oversized. Perhaps that's the appeal — it's a sweater, but barely. And sometimes that's all the fabric you need.

FACES, FOR YOUR EARS - ARIEL KELLOGG
Ariel Kellogg's handmade jewelry is whimsical wearable art. Her earring collection is currently sold out, but I can't help but pine over how fun they would be, dangling from my ears. Ariel's work is very hippie-artist-cowgirl-chic, and in a pandemic-free world, these accessories would undoubtedly be conversation starters. Don't get me wrong, I love a solid gold hoop or a classic pearl, but the appeal of Ariel's earrings is in their slight zoomorphic element. The signature tight-lipped face she paints on her work is mesmerizing and a little creepy — in a good way.

TAPESTRY CORSETS - KRISTIN MALLISON
Tapestries might be made for hanging, but why not for wearing? Kristin Mallison's intricate corset creations might be the most beautiful items to grace my Instagram feed. They’re handmade from vintage tapestry and boned for structure, with a ribbon to tie it all together. Corsets are having a moment (thanks Bridgerton!), but there's an elegant timelessness to Kristin's tops. I'm ready to drop $500 on one of these highly coveted pieces as soon as Joe hands us that stimulus check. Why settle for admiring the work of art, when you can be the work of art?
