Show of Hands
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Apologies for messing up the schedule, but I was catching a flight back to California last week, so I think I can give myself a pass. I’m here for my friend’s wedding — it’s going to be a quaint little garden affair, very small and DIY, and I have graciously offered to bartend though I have never used a cocktail shaker in my life. It can’t be that hard, right? Worse comes to worst I can just throw a mint sprig on top and call it a day, right? 😅😅 How’s everyone’s summer coming along?
Rural Reverie
OVERGROWN FLOWER COTTAGE FINE ART PRINT - AUGUST EUPHORIA (FROM $8.84)
Every time summer rolls around I start entertaining fantasies of an idyllic countryside escape, where my only responsibilities are watering the flowers in my front yard and consuming as many varieties of stone fruit as possible. Basically, I just want to shrink myself down and step into the world created by artist Leonie Beer, whose oil and watercolor paintings are the very embodiment of cottagecore. There are prints of fluffy cows frolicking in meadows, girls in gauzy dresses lounging lakeside, porticos dripping in vines and perfumed roses. As absconding from my daily duties is not, alas, in the cards for me, hanging some of these prints up would be the next best thing.
Bowled Over
FLUTTER NESTED BOWL SET OF 4 - TAGLIAFERRO CERAMICS ($198)
I have never related more to a piece of writing than I did to this Gawker article trash-talking dishwashers. I prefer to hand-wash my dishes immediately after I’m done eating; my roommates, on the other hand, are a little more, uh, relaxed. I’ve been thinking of procuring a few small bowls to keep in my room, just so I can have something on hand when all the rest of the dishes are still dirty and languishing in the dishwasher. I love the look of these elegant nesting bowls from Tagliaferro Ceramics; delicate yet durable, they’re also available in charcoal and aquamarine finishes and feature a fluttered edge that I’m dying to run my finger over. Plus since they stack, they won’t take up too much precious real estate, which is in very short supply.
Give Me a Hand
APRON WITH LACE APPLIQUE, HANDS - GOHAR WORLD ($139)
I keep finding mysterious stains on my clothes, and I’m starting to suspect that it might be from oil popping and splattering everywhere when I cook. I’m not particularly enthusiastic at the prospect of rocking an apron every time I’m in the kitchen, but if it were this fussy little French maid-esque one from Gohar World, I might just change my mind. It’s made from 100% cotton and features an extra-long sash that you can tie in all sorts of configurations, finished with playful hand-shaped lace appliques. (I feel like I’m particularly drawn to hand imagery, for some reason.) The brand was recently featured in T Magazine for its whimsical, surrealist tableware and accessories, like frilly pearl-trimmed coasters and satiny bow-adorned baguette purses.
