Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
April showers bring May flowers, as they say, and there was a lot of rain last month. I’ll always spring for a bouquet on special occasions, but I aspire to become the type of person who brings in a rotating selection of fresh blooms every week, just because. I was also recently researching florists and floral design studios here in NYC to recommend for a friend’s upcoming wedding, and found myself struck by how distinct and singular their aesthetics were, how each bouquet reflects so clearly their designer; here are eight that I’ve loved following, catering to every style and sensibility out there.
Dark and Moody
Saffron was my go-to florist when I lived in Park Slope, and though I’m an hour’s train ride away now, I’d honestly still be willing to make the trek. I adore an offbeat, slightly bizarre bouquet, and they especially excel at gothic color palettes and witchy vibes.
Artsy and Sculptural
Jura’s arrangements have a very avant-garde, fashion-forward flair to them. (Their excellent Valentine’s Day capsule this year was inspired by Saint Laurent’s Rive Gauche collection.)
Elegant and Refined
FDK Florals mostly does installations and event styling for highly tasteful clients like HAY and Herman Miller, but also offers seasonal arrangements and bouquet delivery.
Whimsical and Playful
Vivi Fleurz’s bouquets have such a dainty, feminine, fairy-esque feel to them — I can easily imagine Shakespeare’s Titania dozing off amidst one of Vivianne’s arrangements.
Vivid and Effervescent
For lovers of color, maximalism, and a more-is-more approach: there isn’t a Stems bouquet that won’t brighten up a room.
Natural and Garden-Fresh
Audrey’s chic, pretty wildflower arrangements look like they’ve been plucked straight from the backyard of a Cotswold cottage.
Lush and Sensual
There’s a carnal, voluptuous quality to Robin Hilleary’s designs, certainly befitting of a floral studio named “Fleurotica.”
Dramatic and Show-Stopping
Chinatown-based studio Kabuki is your best bet if you’re really looking to stop someone in their tracks.
