Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
I feel like it was just yesterday when I was writing a Lunar New Year post for the Year of the Tiger?? Man, time really flies, considering how this year’s LNY is just a hop, skip, and a jump away, falling on Sunday, January 22 this year. Rather than rehash all the same traditional fare (Firecrackers! Red envelopes! Dumplings!), I’m leaning more into the theme of this year’s Chinese zodiac animal — the Year of the Rabbit. I mean, who doesn’t love an adorable, fluffy, twitchy-nosed lil bunny? 🐰 Hope everyone has a good time celebrating this weekend!
After the Jump
JUMP ROPE BUNNY EARRINGS - MARMAR SUPERSTAR ($32)
My friend got me this pair of earrings for Christmas (at my behest, I must add — we have a system where we send each other a 3-5 item wishlist, and just pick something off the list to buy each other for the holidays. It’s efficient and stress-free and I highly recommend it!) I love the imagining of a chain as a jump rope, rendering the airborne bunnies in a perpetual state of suspension. Artist Mark Poulin’s animal-themed jewelry have an air of childlike whimsy about them, from soaring pterodactyls to dangling sloths; they’re all made from lead-free pewter and solid sterling silver as well so they won’t irritate sensitive skin, making them a perfect gift for young kids.
I’m All Ears
CROCHETED MIFFY EARMUFFS - AUDREY ALCANTARA ($42)
A Depop shop I follow posted these darling Miffy-embroidered earmuffs for sale, but they were snatched out from under me before I even had the chance to add to cart. Overcome by the compulsion to engage in what I call “consolation shopping,” I frantically started searching for something similar, and stumbled across these made-to-order crocheted ones, featuring Miffy’s signature X-nose and two extra-long strands that you can tie under your chin like a pioneer woman in Little House on the Prairie. Though they’re perhaps not as warm as the originals, which looked to be made from faux fur, they’re more than cute enough for me to happily sacrifice some function for form.
Got It in the Bag
DUDU BUNNY BAG CHARM - 2801 PROJECT ($19)
There’s no non-weird way to say this, but I love touching things. Anything that looks like it has an interesting texture — a silky flower petal, a rough-hewn rock, a painting layered with gobs of paint — inspires within me the urge to reach out and brush my fingers against it. Every single one of the Singapore-based brand 2801 Project’s bag charms floods me with that feeling, from the juicy vinyl tomato to the shaggy lavender butterfly. I bet this bunny would be so fun to squeeze like a stress ball — and it can be clipped onto any tote bag or backpacks, allowing me to covertly indulge in my tactile cravings wherever and whenever.
