Hole-y Grail
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Goodness, I blinked and all of a sudden we’re approaching the end of August. Unfortunately, this last gasp of summer seems determined to make itself as unbearable as possible; the humidity ensures that the moment you step outside you become enveloped in a thin, glistening sheen of sweat. So instead I’ve been holing up at home, munching on peach ring gummies and making my way through a procession of books borrowed from the Brooklyn Library (current read: Hye-Young Pyung’s The Hole… ) See you in September!
Pillow Princess
HOLES PILLOW - MADE:COZY ($110)
In the (extremely far off) scenario where I own a home, I’d want to stock it entirely with Made:Cozy’s quirky, playful furniture. The visage-accented chairs and footstools, octagonal ottomans, and wonky log lamps are infused with so much verve and vitality, it’s impossible not to smile when you look at them. I’m especially enamored with these organic throw pillows featuring a punched-out center — don’t you just want to stick your arm through and wave it around? Plus, they’re perfect for when you just got a brand-new ear piercing but still want to lay on your side. Everything in the shop is handmade by brand founders Haviland Justice and Oliver Reams in their Massachusetts studio, which means that they’re guaranteed to have impeccable construction and stand the test of time.
Circle Skirt
HAPPY HOLE KNIT SKIRT IN GREEN/BLUE - HAPPY99 ($99)
When I first stumbled onto the Happy99 website, it was hard to tell whether the products were real or not. The graphics have a matte, plasticine quality, and rotate 360 degrees like characters in a video game. It’s a nod to the brand’s digital roots, as founders Nathalie Nguyen and Dominic Lopez started out designing 3D-rendered clothes and shoes that existed purely on Instagram, before branching out into physical merch such as tote bags, tees, and stuffed plushies. So I’m happy to report that this skirt does, in fact, exist IRL; it’s crafted from a tri-color jacquard knit with the coolest circle kangaroo pockets (don’t worry, your legs won’t show through!) I can definitely see myself pairing it with a preppy polo and some chunky loafers.
Loop de Loop
EXPERIENCE EARPLUGS - LOOP EARPLUGS ($30)
My friend wanted these Loop earplugs for Christmas last year, which I summarily ordered, wrapped up, handed over, and promptly forgot about. But now I’m taking a closer look because I’m in the market for a good pair of reusable earplugs to take to clubs and concerts, so I won’t have to rely anymore on those cheap orange foam ones that bartenders stash next to the Smirnoff. I’m pretty sure I’ve already sustained some irreparable injury this past year by going out totally unprotected; I have no doubt that hours of thumping beats and piercing synths well above normal levels have taken a toll on my cochlea, but since these are built with a filter to reduce noise by 18 decibels, hopefully they’ll prevent any more damage. I do like the look of the loop nestled in your ear — it’s quite chic and almost seems like you’re wearing jewelry rather than earplugs — but I’m not completely sold; should I shell out a little more for this pair that’s custom-molded for a better fit? Anyone have any thoughts?
