Grow Gang
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Despite my distinct lack of green thumb, in the past week I’ve somehow I’ve managed to stumble onto PlantTok, where people fuss over their ferns, fiddle leafs, and philodendrons as tenderly and lovingly as they would their own child. Keeping indoor plants has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and improve productivity, plus the start of spring is the perfect time to bring a bit of greenery into your life, so if you’ve been thinking about adopting some flora, read on.
Something’s Fishy
ANGLER FISH PLANTER POT - HEAD FULL OF DIRT
I have a fascination with aquatic monsters, so I was instantly obsessed the moment I laid eyes on this angler fish planter pot. There’s just something very bizarre about juxtaposing an underwater animal alongside some decidedly earth-based vegetation — feels like some law of the universe has been breached. Artist Matthew Bagshaw’s geometric planters are 3D printed from eco-friendly, plant-based biodegradable plastic and can be customized with different sizes and colors. If terrifying deep-sea creatures aren’t your thing, maybe a cat, snail, or gorilla will be more to your liking?

12" SHIITAKE MUSHROOM LOG - 2 FUN GUYS
Growing your own tomatoes? Pshhh, child’s play — how about growing your own mushrooms? At 2 Fun Guys, Howard Berk and Todd Pittard collect recently felled oak and sweetgum logs, seed them with mushroom spores, and ship them to your home, whereupon you may revel in the fruits of your harvest for years to come — provided you spritz them regularly and store them in a cool, dark place, that is. I must admit that I don’t feel super enthusiastic about the idea of some fungi-infested stump just chilling in my home, but hey, if you’ve got a hankering for morels, then this one’s for you.
Fuss Free Flowers
PERLER BEAD FLOWERS - SUPER DOPE MEGA PIXEL
Or perhaps you’re horticulturally hopeless like me and every single plant you’ve ever owned has withered on you, even the ones that are “low-maintenance” (apparently even succulents need to be watered on occasion 😅). Not to worry: these pretty perler bead flowers require zero upkeep and are guaranteed to stay bright and cheerful for eternity. I loved playing around with perler beads when I was a kid; made of fusible plastic, they melt together when ironed over to create cool pixelated designs. I can’t wait to start cultivating my real-life Minecraft garden.
