Flight of Fancy
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Ok, I may have spoken too soon last week. After a string of balmy, temperate spring days, suddenly we’re right back to biting winds and icy sidewalks, which has really sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Nevertheless, despite this temporary setback, my spirits remain hopeful, my outlook optimistic. Onward!
We Heart It
HEART-SHAPED PINK & LILAC SUNGLASSES - ELECTRIC WARDROBE VTG ($19)
I’m not a big sunglasses person, since my regular glasses already possess some measure of UV protection, but I like to keep a few spares on hand for days where I know I’ll be outside for an extended period of time. The key, however, is that all of them are under $25. Look, I know myself; I know there’s a 100% chance they’ll all eventually get forgotten in a restaurant booth or an Uber backseat, so I just buy cute, fun, cheap sunglasses that’ll stick around for a season or two before they inevitably make their way to the parallel realm where all the missing laundry socks and lip balms of the world reside. These cheeky pink and lilac heart-shaped shades fit the bill perfectly, and I’ll be sad to bid them au revoir when the time comes.
Bird-Brained
VINTAGE 1980S TOUCAN DESK LAMP - VARDELLUM ($259)
This Urban Outfitters copycat can’t hold a candle to the original toucan lamp, designed by H.T. Huang in the ‘80s. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a real sucker for Memphis design, and this little guy is pretty much the embodiment of the movement’s bold, quirky, offbeat sensibilities. You can find him in other colorways all over Etsy, from teal and marigold to coral and cobalt, but this bubblegum pink-and-periwinkle combination is especially striking, in my opinion.
Dream Factory
EUPHORY - HAPPI_115 (FROM $15)
Through the inscrutable whims of the algorithm, @happi_115’s account just happened to cross my Twitter timeline, and I was instantly enamored with their enchanting illustrations. There’s something deeply hypnotic about their art, in which a procession of bunnies gambol through a cotton candy dreamscape. Equally nostalgic and futuristic, their style is evocative of old Fantasia-style Disney cartoons, bathed in a hazy, diffuse glow. When I saw that they opened an online shop, I knew I had to pick up a few prints.
