Feline Good
Where’d you get that?:
I remember coming across a Tumblr post from Thorunn Arnadottir, an Icelandic designer, all the way back in 2012. She had an idea called PyroPets, where cute little cat-shaped candles melted down to reveal a fierce skeleton inside, and she was promoting her Kickstarter in order to make her dream a reality. Now, seven years later, she has her own company called 54 Celsius, and the PyroPets line has expanded to include seven other animals, including Voffi, a dog; Hoppa, a bunny; and Dreki, a dragon. But their og kitty candle, Kisa, is still my favorite. I got her in pink, and from the outside, she looks so sweet and gentle, with an elegant, sculptural geometric design. But the real magic happens once the wick is lit, revealing a macabre metal skeleton with charred bones and bared fangs. I’m thinking about getting a second one in black — perfect to get into the Halloween spirit!
I’m obsessed with:
CAT NATURAL TUFTED MAT BLACK - MAKER’S HALLOWEEN
I love to decorate my house in the spirit of the holidays, but Halloween is the one occasion where I refuse to go all out. I admit it; I’m a scaredy cat! I don’t want all those bloody zombies and headless corpses hanging out in my closet during the other 11 months of the year. Thus, I’m always on the lookout for creepy-cute decor that still get me in a spooky mood but won’t give me a heart attack when I go home to a dark apartment. This cat doormat, with its mysterious, menacing stare, fit the bill perfectly. Paired with some grinning jack-o-lanterns, my front porch will be ready to greet trick-or-treaters.
On my wish list:
CLASSIC KIT KAT CLOCK - KIT CAT
I stumbled upon a Kit-Cat Klock at the Museum of Modern Art gift shop and immediately recognized it — I mean, how could I not? An iconic symbol of Americana kitsch, it’s been featured in the opening credits of Back to the Future; in music videos by Katy Perry, Melanie Martinez, and Taylor Swift; in Super Bowl commercials for Garnier and Subway; and, the true marker of a pop culture artifact, on an episode of The Simpsons.
With its rolling eyes, wagging tail, and contagious smile, this timekeeping kitty has charmed its way into the hearts of people everywhere – apparently a Kit-Cat Klock is purchased every 3 minutes. As I am currently in the process of learning how to cook for myself (a very stressful and strenuous undertaking), I wouldn’t mind having a friend in the kitchen to keep me company.
