Farm to Fashion
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
I have a very lovely guest post for you today: please welcome Winnie Wang! Winnie is a film programmer, graphic designer, freelance writer, and trivia enthusiast living in Toronto; you can find them musing over pop culture, food, and fashion over on Twitter or IG. They also have a newsletter (of which I’m a loyal subscriber!) called “a snack for later,” where they write about personal style, vintage objects and other fun finds, so if you’re a fan of WIWO, you should definitely check it out. I loved their very cute, very agrarian picks and I hope you will too!
Blue Collar
PATCHWORK DENIM COLLAR - NEOPHYTE
If you still don’t own a removable collar but have been intrigued by the accessory, may I suggest purchasing one from Neophyte, a local brand that designs and creates its garments in Toronto? I resisted the trend for what feels like ages, worried that it would be soon outgoing, but I finally gave in and it feels good. After nearly two years, I’m sure that my acquisition of this item isn’t driven by consumerist pressure but a desire to approach prairiecore without populating my wardrobe with dresses from a Laura Ingalls Wilder adaptation. The accessory can be worn over turtlenecks, wool sweaters, dresses and virtually anything that doesn’t already have a collar already. (For more collar options, see La Veste.)
Made For You
PALERMO BLOUSE - BRUISED PEACH
Perhaps you’re interested in oversized collars but struggle to see how the accessory will fit in your closet, or maybe the current market offerings simply don’t interest you. Enter: the Palermo blouse! The top features a large collar with ruffled edges and bishop sleeves, and comes in a dress version. Because Bruised Peach is a made-to-order brand, the blouse can be customized to your size, fabric of choice and length. I’ve seen it in seafoam (under a beige vest), magenta (with a red hat), peach (over a black turtleneck), and cream (with a brown plaid skirt). This can be the garment of your dreams!
Fruit of the Loom
HEIRLOOM CREW - HANSEL FROM BASEL
Good socks – this heirloom tomato pair in particular – will improve your life. They’re among the list of items I will happily splurge on in order to feel opulent. (Other items include finishing salt, quality hot chocolate and handmade soaps.) My sock drawer is mostly populated by socks from Costco and H&M, but when I absentmindedly reach inside, letting my hand guide the way, and extract a pair from Hansel from Basel, the reveal immediately brightens my day. When I hang dry my laundry, I look forward to pairing ones from the Los Angeles-based brand together, and when I wear them, they serve as a reminder to treat myself to nice things. Their cotton mercerized trouser crews look excellent with Doc Marten oxfords, but I’ve also been known to wear them with Teva sandals and Dansko clogs.
Look on the Bright Side
STITCHED EDGE TEA TOWELS - INDABA
Last weekend I visited Good Egg, a cookbook and gift shop that recently reopened, and stumbled upon these gorgeous tea towels with bright contrast stitching. These days, anything colourful reminds me of Luke Edward Hall and his interiors. Though I haven’t seen photos of his kitchen, I imagine it’s filled with textiles covered in patterns and prints like these towels from Freckled Fuschia and Dusen Dusen.
