You may notice the products I’ve picked today have similar, ah, vibes. That’s because I read this article about the blanding of brands and promptly fell down a rabbit hole of D2Cs. There are so many!! Do we really need them all??
It’s hard to stand out from the pack, but the ones below are, at least in my opinion, doing something special. What’s your favorite thing you’ve bought from an Instagram ad?

EVERYBODY TISSUE BOX - DUSEN DUSEN VIA AREAWARE
When I was a kid, I wanted to be a tissue box designer. I’m not entirely sure how or why this idea popped into my head, but I suspect it’s because, as a frequent nosebleed sufferer, I kept a box of tissues next to my pillow and would fall asleep to the sight of tessellating triangles. Alas, I did not grow up to be a Kleenex employee, but I still retain an appreciation for a good-looking tissue box, such as this one from design company Dusen Dusen. With striking striped smiley faces rendered in bold, bright colors, it’s sure to spice up a drab desk or boring bathroom.
Fade From View
About a month ago, I experienced an insidious attack: unbeknownst to me, a mosquito had snuck into my room, and as I slumbered peacefully away, it tucked into a blood buffet. I woke up to a total of 12 bites up and down my legs, plus a few more on my elbows for good measure. Although the bites are fully healed now, they’ve left unsightly dark spots in their wake; thankfully, there’s a whole host of skincare products out there designed to address hyperpigmentation and scarring, and after extensive research, I eventually settled on the Faded serum from Topicals. I liked that it’s fragrance-free, dye-free, vegan, and cruelty free, plus the founders of the brand are both WOC. But most importantly — it works! The spots are already far less visible, and my legs are well on their way to returning to their previously unblemished state. Thanks, Topicals!

CLASSIC SCRUNCH PAIR BLACK & WHITE - SCRUNCHEROO
Ok yes, it’s a scrunchie D2C. It has cutesy branding and cheeky copy and also the scrunchies are $16. Scruncheroo epitomizes “millennial startup.” But they’re special scrunches — they’re made from a microfiber cloth that feels like suede, and you can use ‘em to clean your glasses or your laptop screen, which, I dunno about you, but mine both sorely need a good polishing. No more wiping my glasses on my shirt or feeling embarrassed that the person sitting behind me can see every smudge, smear, and stain on my screen! Look, I’m into it. I’m considering getting it. Sorry!
Tried one of my recs and loved it (or hated it)? Wanna get something cool on my radar? Drop me a line at kittylguo@gmail.com, or swing by my Twitter @kitguo!
Oo! The scrunchies sounds cool!
