Charmed, I’m Sure
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
It’s been a while since I ran a guest issue, but it’s something I definitely want to do more of — after all, I’m just one person with one perspective, and there are so many cool people with great taste out there discovering things that I never would’ve come across myself. One such person is Arbela Capas, a marketing writer who’s been running her Substack newsletter The Changing Room for over 4 years, exploring style and how it translates through life, society and identity. She also hosts a podcast (by the same name) interviewing stylists, designers, curators and other creatives in the realm of style and art, and has also contributed to various publications like Nylon and Cleveland Magazine. (And as if she weren’t busy enough, she’s also posting everything from beautiful florals to outfit analyses on Instagram and TikTok as well!) I asked Arbela to lend her curatorial eye to WIWO this week and I’m so glad I did, because I loved her picks — I hope you do too :)
Keyed Up
CURIO KEYCHAIN - MAGNETISM (CA$35)
Keychains are one of those things we procure without thinking much about it. Maybe we pick them up at a vacation gift shop or we get one gifted to us that matches our personality. But the keychains we accumulate say a lot about us – what are we willing to carry with us at almost all times?
To me, these beaded keychains from Magnetism are that perfect mix – they feel like something that would charm someone’s keys or bag for years to come. While the shop owner, Michelle, mostly curates vintage clothing on her site (which I highly recommend browsing through as well), I’m especially charmed by her “curated treasures” section. While simple, I think Michelle has such an eye for color and how to mix unexpected palettes, while mixing natural elements like wood, recycled sea glass and even a seashell here and there.
Primary Focus
VINTAGE MEMPHIS MILANO STYLE DESK LAMP - YUGOVICHEVA ($79.35)
As someone who works from home, it’s been a constant struggle for me to find the balance between practical, modern items that get me through the work day and my love for vintage home decor. But when in doubt, secondhand mid-century modern items seem to always be the best of both worlds for me. Such as this postmodern primary-colored lamp that is as playful as it is timeless – it’s from the 1980s, but I bet there’s a million drop-shipping sites trying (and failing) to copy this exact design. But this Slovenian-based Etsy shop has it all: colorful home accessories, vintage IKEA items and this eclectic little teapot that is ready to party.
Florals? For Fall?
PRIMARY FLORAL TIGHTS - KEELY ($50)
We’re sneaking into the fall season slowly but surely…so I’m back to thinking about fun hosiery. I’d love to suggest these beautiful tulip covered stockings from the small designer Keely. Yes, the print – which you can find all over their site – is a bit more on the springy side, but I believe that the elegant shape of tulips can work for any season. Can’t you imagine these with a red mini dress? Or maybe a pleated skirt and knee-high boots?
Lost and Found
FOUND TREASURES MIRROR - WAR INTERIORS ($65)
One of my favorite ways to add more breathing room and whimsy to my home is through mirrors. And this doesn’t just mean full length mirrors or vanities. I also like hanging them in lieu of paintings or art (let the reflection of your beautiful home be the art!) I love these embellished mirrors made by artist Whitney Anderson Rooney which are adorned with glass, fossils and seashells. I imagine these adding a perfect amount of color and texture styled on a bookshelf or as part of an intricate gallery wall.
