Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
You know that feeling when you finally do something that you’ve been contemplating, soliciting opinions on, and waffling over for forever? Well, I do: I got bangs. And um, well, hmm…… the best way I can describe it is that I sort of look like these cats in caps 😅. It’s not bad, in that I didn’t burst into tears the moment I put my glasses back on (a low bar, granted!) But it wasn’t like Oh my god, I love it! I’m a total bangs girly! either. I think mostly I just need some time to get used to it, but of course I reverted to my usual coping mechanism when I have a stressor in my life, which is to throw myself into hours-long shopping sessions researching the best products to maintain my new style. So without further ado…
Pinkie Swair
SHOWERLESS SHAMPOO + SWEATSHIELD SAMPLER PACK - SWAIR ($28)
I swear by my every-two-days hair-washing schedule, but that’s definitely not going to cut it for the hair that’s in contact with my forehead 24/7. The last time I tried dry shampoo was in college, and perhaps it was a function of inexperience, but it just didn’t seem to work for me, for whatever reason. I was just about to resign myself to giving Klorane another shot when I remembered these showerless shampoo samples I received from Swair. The formula helps remove dirt, sweat, and grime from your hair without any rinsing or sudsing — I’ll spritz my bangs with a fine mist, then give them a little mussing with a towel and it perks them right back up.
Bare Your Teeth
STAINLESS STEEL EDC COMB - FIDGET GEAR ($19.99)
All it takes is one train pulling into the station to cause my painstakingly-arranged fringe to go flying. I’ve been ushering them back in place with my fingers, but excessive fussing is a recipe for greasy, limp strands; what I need is a portable comb for touch-ups when I’m out and about. However, my propensity for carrying cavernous totes means a flimsy plastic comb from the drugstore is likely to end up busted within a week. After a little digging, I found this pint-sized, stainless steel pocket comb with two different teeth widths; it’s got the same dimensions as a credit card, so I can even slip it into my wallet. It’s marketed for on-the-go beard grooming, but I think it’ll work just as well for marshaling wayward bangs.
Take Cover
SILK SCARF 0102 - VISO PROJECT ($95)
If all else fails, I suppose I can’t go wrong with a chic little silk scarf wrapped around my hair until it grows out a bit. (The cut is sort of Amelie-esque, so maybe I just need to lean into the French girl vibes?) I’m quite partial to this one from Viso Project, with a bold, graphic print that’s punchy enough to distract from any helmet-headedness.
Tried one of my recs and loved it (or hated it)? Wanna get something cool on my radar? Drop me a line at kittylguo@gmail.com!
Yes! Swair is the best!
