August Blues
Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
Guys… we’re in August. We’re almost halfway through August. I went to Target last week and felt a shiver run down my spine witnessing all the back-to-school displays out in full force. The time has flown by in the blink of an eye, so in honor of summer 2021, here’s some cool stuff to help you get in one last hurrah before the autumn chill sets in. The vibes may have been off, but there’s still time to course-correct!
It’s the Climb
GRAMICCI X PARKS PROJECT LOOSE TAPERED PANTS - PARKS PROJECT
Even if you didn’t go trekking through Grand Teton or kayaking down the Colorado River this summer, you might as well dress like you did. I myself have never rock climbed in my life, but that’s not gonna stop me from copping these spectacular Gramicci x Parks Project camo-print pants. Parks Project’s motto is “adventure with a purpose”; with every purchase of their apparel and accessories, a portion of the proceeds goes to funding projects across the National Parks such as wildlife conservation efforts, habitat restoration, and visitor education. (These pants help support Access Fund, a non-profit rock climbing advocacy group.) Parks Project partners with 50 different park conservancy programs — so even if you don’t manage to make it Yellowstone or Yosemite this summer, at least a few of your dollars will.
Tuft Love
TUFTED SKATEBOARDS - SKATE NEEDLE
I read this NY Times feature on young NYC skateboarders with both bitter envy and wistful acceptance that I’ll never be as cool as them. I, too, learned how to skate during the early days of the pandemic, and though I can get around pretty well now, I have zero desire to test out my skills at an actual skate park. (Falling flat on your face in front of a bunch of 13-year-olds? Nightmare material.) Plus, my deck is embarrassingly blank — I bought it with the intention of painting my own design but never got around to it. Maybe if I were carrying around a cool tufted skateboard, like these amazingly fuzzy ones from Skate Needle, I’d work up the nerve to actually try my hand at an ollie.
A Trip in a Sip
I know what you’re thinking — “Oh great, another D2C drink brand with a poppy design and slick marketing.” And you’d be forgiven for thinking that! But I’m here to preach the gospel of Rù, which offers a healthy twist on traditional Asian teas, with flavors like Lychee Green Tea, Chrysanthemum Tea with Ginger, and Thai Tea with Mint and Lime. They’re infused with vitamin C and D and use monkfruit as a natural sugar substitute, plus they’re amazing mixed into a makeshift cocktail. I’m just a hop, skip, and a jump away from Prospect Park, and I’m trying not to think about the fact that there will come a day where I can no longer grab a book, a blanket and a can of Rù after work and go read in the park for a couple hours.
