Hi everyone, happy Wednesday!
A few weeks ago, I went to a trendy Japanese salon to get my hair cut. Now, I don’t believe in making snap judgments on haircuts — the way it looks when you walk out, all fluffed and blow-dried, won’t be the way it looks once you’ve let it settle in a bit — so I withheld my final verdict until I’d given myself a while to acclimate. Well, it’s been a good long while, so by now I think it’s safe to say that it’s, uh, not great. To be fair, I have no one to blame but myself — I know my hair doesn’t do well with lots of layering, but I went in and asked for a wolf cut-esque look anyway, seduced by Pinterest photos of models who probably have personal hairstylists on call. In any case, I predict it’ll be another month or two before it starts to look respectable again, so in the meantime I’m desperately searching for hair accessories to carry me through this awkward transitional phase. Anyone else have any tips and tricks for dealing with a less-than-ideal haircut? Send them my way, I beg of you.
Band Together
YUSHO KOBAYASHI HAIR BANDS - CAFE FORGOT ($65)
I’ve never thought of myself as a headband person, possibly because I associate them with a sort of posh, perky, preppy sensibility that’s definitely not my style — very Blair from Gossip Girl. But I don’t get that sense at all from these knitted yarn headbands from Yusho Kobayashi, a Central Saint Martins grad whose work makes use of found materials and hand-finished techniques to invoke a sense of whimsy and play. Knitted together from leftover yarn scraps, their haphazard piecemeal quality and unfinished ends trailing into long, wispy tendrils of string exhibit not a trace of prep school stuffiness.
Glove Love
GLOVES HAIR PIN SET - MADE BY MLE ($24)
Fashion blogger Amy Roiland’s retro-glam aesthetic is perfectly encapsulated by these delightfully fanciful hair clips, inspired by her favorite pair of pink satin gloves. I’m particularly taken with the hands’ design — I don’t think I would be quite so charmed by them if they were just designed in the standard five-fingers-splayed position. But these hands, with their elegantly-arrayed fingers and wrists bent just so, have personality — they love theater and showbiz and have a flair for the dramatic! Whether clipped into your hair or displayed on your nightstand, these hands can’t not make a statement.
Off the Cuff
SCRUNCHIE CUFF - SUBLIMA JEWELRY (FROM $209)
I’ve taken to wearing a scrunchie around my wrist 24/7, plus two extra hairbands for good measure, just in case my hair decides to really act up and I need to throw it into a ponytail or pigtails as a last resort. Since hair accessories are already a permanent fixture on my wrist, I might as well take it one step further with this scrunchie bangle. The fun, unexpected hand-carved detailing mimics cinching and ruffling with such startling accuracy that at a distance, you might really mistake it for soft fabric rather than hard metal.

My favorite clips are by far from Eugenia Kids. I know I’m grown but I never won’t love a clip that says “picky” or weirdo”. If you ever do want to channel a little Blair, hill house home has some beautiful ones
